BrandSanderson Mon Mar 28
I have a post up about tsunami relief auctions, the Writing & Illustrating for Young Readers conference, and more. http://t.co/6bByP8q

BrandSanderson Mon Mar 28
Some of the later Sea Folk are so hawkish with their trading that sometimes I forget how pleasant Jorin and her sister are. #wotrr

BrandSanderson Mon Mar 28
I remember when I first read The Shadow Rising, I had NO idea what to make of Lord Luc. #wotrr

BrandSanderson Mon Mar 28
Perrin's growth as a character here between his last section and the start of Ch40 is very well done. Subtle, but powerful. #wotrr

BrandSanderson Mon Mar 28
I like how in this case, RJ skipped some time, then jumped back and showed us the contrast. A cool way of showing growth starkly. #wotrr

BrandSanderson Tue Mar 29
Baby Meatloaf just wandered by carrying a can of diet coke. ???

BrandSanderson Tue Mar 29
I have NO idea where he go it. Pemberly and I aren't really soda drinkers.

howardtayler Tue Mar 29
@BrandSanderson I think I had canned soda downstairs at your house. Baby Meatloaf probably fished it out of the trash. #goodparenting

EricJamesStone Tue Mar 29
@BrandSanderson I'd say @scalzi was the logical person to blame, except that it would have been Coke Zero, not Diet Coke.

BrandSanderson Tue Mar 29
@EricJamesStone @howardtayler Of course. SCALZIIII!!!!!

BrandSanderson Tue Mar 29
And now he has removed the lid of his sippy cup, dumped the water on himself, and followed it by walking around with a bucket on his head.

MonkeySloth Tue Mar 29
@BrandSanderson Just want to let you know I taught him that trick.

howardtayler Tue Mar 29
@MonkeySloth @BrandSanderson " . . . and that's why we don't let you play with Uncle Jordo anymore. Now put the flamethrower away."

BrandSanderson Tue Mar 29
@MonkeySloth @howardtayler I forgot the prime rule of being a Sanderson: Blame Jordo.

BrandSanderson Tue Mar 29
Yes, I'm watching him on my own. Why do you ask? (We shall never speak of this day to Pemberly.)

BrandSanderson Wed Mar 30

Want a character in the next Stormlight Archive book named after you? Go bid on eBay. Supports LTUE sf/f symposium. http://bit.ly/h7genE

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 07
Just spoke at Prof Thayer's class. (One of m favorite teachers during my BYU days.) This is his last year. Can't believe it.

BrandSanderson Fri Apr 08
By the way, I AM still doing the #wotrr. Been a little too busy to tweet regularly these last few weeks. Will get back into it.

BrandSanderson Fri Apr 08
For those following along, I'm right at the end of TSR. Love this book. But man is it long. :) #wotrr

BrandSanderson Fri Apr 08
Yes, I've still been writing on AMOL at the same time. But I had to do the Alloy of Law copyedit last week, which slowed me a tad.

BrandSanderson Fri Apr 08
You know, Nynaeve, it would have been 'wrong' and all, but I'd totally have forgiven you if you'd just offed Moghedien in the palace. #wotrr

redhairbeast Fri Apr 08
@BrandSanderson what about Travelling? Quendillar? And all the rest?

BrandSanderson Fri Apr 08
@redhairbeast I'm not following you. What are you asking about?

BrandSanderson Fri Apr 08
@redhairbeast Oh, you mean "If Mog died, we wouldn't have these things." True, true.

BrandSanderson Fri Apr 08
@redhairbeast But at the same time . . . they keep just letting the Forsaken get away. Ah, well.

BrandSanderson Fri Apr 08
Now I'm imagining Nynaeve towing Mog out with her and bringing her to the White Tower for justice—only to find Elaida in charge . . . #wotrr

Lacobus Fri Apr 08
@BrandSanderson I started #wotrr same time as you and I'm just finishing PoD! Sorry couldn't resist steaming ahead.

BrandSanderson Fri Apr 08
@Lacobus Ha. I'll catch up, maybe. I spend a lot of time making notes and building the outline.

PolarisPanels Fri Apr 08
Today we'd like to give a big #followfriday to one of our Author Guests of Honour, @BrandSanderson—we're so excited he'll be joining us!

BrandSanderson Fri Apr 08
@PolarisPanels Thank you! Looking forward to it.

heridfan Fri Apr 08
@BrandSanderson how did Moggy know about sad bracelets? Semirhage said in tGS that they were made after the Forsaken were imprisoned. #wotrr

BrandSanderson Fri Apr 08
@heridfan I believe Mog said she'd been doing some research about the Breaking and had learned about them.

BrandSanderson Fri Apr 08
This might be old news, but people keep asking me about it. Yes there ARE Dreamers among the Forsaken. Male and female. #wotrr

Southpaw2014 Fri Apr 08
@BrandSanderson one male AND one female Forsaken are dreamers?

BrandSanderson Fri Apr 08
@Southpaw2014 There are multiple dreamers. At least one male and at least one female.

Darth_Andrea Fri Apr 08
@BrandSanderson I seem to be one of the few who think that Taim is a transmigrated Asmodean, will we find out about Taim finally in #AMOL?

BrandSanderson Fri Apr 08
@Darth_Andrea Some things, at least, you will discover.

sleepinghour Fri Apr 08
@BrandSanderson There's been some debate about Moghedien's strength in the Power since she and Nynaeve were equal in TSR, but Nynaeve hadn't reached full strength as late as tPoD. Is Moghedien the weakest of the Forsaken?

BrandSanderson Fri Apr 08
@sleepinghour Honestly? I'd have to look it up. I don't know offhand how Cyndane fits into things now. Still powerful, but not as powerful.

BrandSanderson Fri Apr 08
@sleepinghour Mogy is among the weaker Forsaken, for certain. If you're looking at raw power.

BrandSanderson Mon Apr 11
TFoH had middle-child syndrome for me. Books 4–6 are among my favorites, but I always had trouble remembering what was in 5. #wotrr

BrandSanderson Mon Apr 11
I THOUGHT I knew. I'd say "Oh, it has such&such." But I'd find that was in 4. I'd try again, and end up with something in 6. #wotrr

BrandSanderson Mon Apr 11
Working on a scene that RJ wrote part of. In some ways, those are the toughest ones. Most time consuming, at least.

Southpaw2014 Mon Apr 11
@BrandSanderson how much do u usually have to change of RJs scenes? Just first part and last so it fits in well or what?

BrandSanderson Mon Apr 11
@Southpaw2014 Depends on the scene. If I'm lucky, it's what you explained. But getting my parts to match can be a LOT of work.

BrandSanderson Mon Apr 11
@Southpaw2014 That's especially true if it's a new character, without a viewpoint narrative I can study except for the unfinished scene.

BrandSanderson Mon Apr 11
@Southpaw2014 Some of the scenes need more, as they are first drafts RJ intended to revise. I try not to change too much, but some of the scenes were ones where he was careful to lay down important things—like motivation—first, but didn't work on setting very much. (I'm working on one of those now.)

DaveJustDave Mon Apr 11
@BrandSanderson re: reworking RJ's scenes. ever get tired and goof? "as Rand reached for the shardblade . . . er . . . callandor" . . .

BrandSanderson Mon Apr 11
@DaveJustDave Ha. No, I haven't done that. Usually when writing WoT I make sure I'm very steeped in reading it at the time.

BrandSanderson Tue Apr 12
You know, Rhuidean is one of those words my mind refuses to pronounce correctly. 15 years of doing it one way in my head hold sway. #wotrr

BrandSanderson Tue Apr 12
Scene I worked on yesterday is done. AMOL is now at 2% done. (Assuming a 300k length, or about the length of TGS.)

BrandSanderson Tue Apr 12
I really like Melindhra. #wotrr. Spoilers behind the link. Anyway, I like her a lot, probably more than I . . . (cont) http://deck.ly/~Feac7

echobase77 Tue Apr 12
My brother called to tell me he just read the Mistborn series by @BrandSanderson. Great books; everyone should read them! Go find them, now!

BrandSanderson Tue Apr 12
@echobase77 Thanks for the shout out!

Rhabella Tue Apr 12
@dragonmount @BrandSanderson given the enormity of the disappearance of you know who, how is tFoH not memorable? #wotrr

BrandSanderson Tue Apr 12
@Rhabella It's more that books 4–6 blend together for me in many ways.

epiccomplicated Tue Apr 12
@BrandSanderson seems to me that you were mocking christiantity and most other religions a bit in the hero of ages

BrandSanderson Tue Apr 12
@epiccomplicated I did not mean to mock. I do sometimes mean to study, question, and inspect.

ChaconCruz Tue Apr 12
@BrandSanderson and you do a great job, I can't tell which scenes are half RJ and half yours, you have a great gift, my friend!

BrandSanderson Tue Apr 12
@ChaconCruz Thank you.

IanKrohn Tue Apr 12
@BrandSanderson the way of kings is a wonderful book makes me wonder when the next will come out 5 stars sir

BrandSanderson Tue Apr 12
@IanKrohn Thank you very much. Second book will come as soon as I can get to it. (After the last WOT book.)

wiz421 Tue Apr 12
Now, unfortunately, I'm going to need @brandsanderson to finish the last book ASAP. <taps_foot/> (Very nice job on TGS & ToM, BTW.)

BrandSanderson Tue Apr 12
@wiz421 Thank you. :) Working on that last one as fast as is reasonable . . .

BrandSanderson Tue Apr 12
A note from @sleepinghour: "Found some Japanese fanart of @BrandSanderson's "Mistborn": http://bit.ly/hiXy30 "

BrandSanderson Tue Apr 12
Everyone is asking how I pronounce Rhuidean. I always want to say "Roo-i-dee-un." Actually, much like Druidea from Spaceballs. Huh. #wotrr

BrandSanderson Tue Apr 12
To note, that isn't the right way. #wotrr (Which, honestly, I always get mixed up, since I can't remember if the audiobooks are right or not.) I think it's Roo-i-deen. An HCFF out there can help. Did any of you hear RJ say it in person?

BrandSanderson Tue Apr 12
Want a character in the next Stormlight Archive book named after you? I'm auctioning off the right; benefits LTUE. http://shar.es/HHE3k

Rubix42 Tue Apr 12
@BrandSanderson Just looking at a production standpoint for a rough draft, what do think you average word-wise per hour?

BrandSanderson Tue Apr 12
@Rubix42 It's so hard to say, as it varies a lot. I shoot for around 2k a day on something like the WoT.

Southpaw2014 Tue Apr 12
@BrandSanderson If book doesn't make March deadline, will it be April or would it be bumped back further for a better release period?

BrandSanderson Tue Apr 12
@Southpaw2014 I honestly don't know. That's going to be Tom and Harriet's decision.

BrandSanderson Tue Apr 12
@Southpaw2014 I just need to make sure I turn it in late this year sometime; from there, it could be launched any time 2012 they want.

FelixPax Tue Apr 12
@BrandSanderson #wotjack Who would be a more powerful Dreamer, Moghedien or Moridin? ;o)

BrandSanderson Tue Apr 12
@FelixPax Ha. Trying to trick me into saying?

thesuperscotty Tue Apr 12
@BrandSanderson nevermind . . . no link on tweetdeck, its all just there.

BrandSanderson Tue Apr 12
@thesuperscotty Curious. Probably because I'm using Tweetdeck too. If you mind spoilers, I bet you can turn that off.

david2587 Tue Apr 12
@BrandSanderson How fast do you expect the % to increase? I'm not badgering, just curious :)

BrandSanderson Tue Apr 12
@david2587 My goal is 2–3% a week while doing the reread. Then to step it up a bit from there.

TinkerPride Tue Apr 12
@BrandSanderson On a more serious note, which book are up to your #wotrr project?

BrandSanderson Tue Apr 12
@TinkerPride Book five. I've completed two scenes from AMOL as well.

CKserenity Tue Apr 12
@BrandSanderson is there any way of getting a signed copy of a Mistborn book? Maybe you have plans to come to Sweden for a book signing?

BrandSanderson Tue Apr 12
@CKserenity I'll be in Norway in late May, early June. That's KIND of close. Or we could do it through the mail.

dustinbrownman Tue Apr 12
@BrandSanderson Alright, so is it "Eg-win' or "E-gwain"? Me an a buddy have been arguing over this for years

BrandSanderson Tue Apr 12
@dustinbrownman That one, it's the second for certain. I've heard Team Jordan all say it that way.

BrandSanderson Wed Apr 13
TOWERS OF MIDNIGHT has fewer votes than MATTERHORN by Karl Marlantes in the semifinals of Audible's tournament. http://j.mp/ftJiZy

BrandSanderson Wed Apr 13
I've put up my JordanCon schedule, plus other updates. http://t.co/kohwg26

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
Salt Lake Airport has been Brandalized. Three hardcovers of TofM signed and one TGS paperback. On my way to Jordancon!

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
Wheel of time drinking game! Each time one of the wondergirls wanders off alone or in a pair and gets kidnapped, take a shot. #wotrr

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
If you do, you'll take a shot every 2 or 3 books. So, uh, every few weeks. Okay, it's a bad drinking game. What'd you expect? I'm Mormon. :)

brentweeks Thu Apr 14
@BrandSanderson Awesome dual tweet there. Well done, sir.

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@brentweeks :)

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
Yes, Delta has free twitter again on this flight. I will try my best to get work done. Why is it so much more tempting while flying?

GogoInflight Thu Apr 14
@BrandSanderson Brandon, Enjoy our complimentary #Twitter access! Today is the last day—http://bit.ly/faHXcx Happy travels! *-)-

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@GogoInflight Ha. Well, thank you very much. You've made one novelist quite happy. And somewhat less productive. :)

Ehudthekiller Thu Apr 14
@BrandSanderson By chance did you check out the map I emailed you about a while back?

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@Ehudthekiller You're going to have to remind me which one it was. I get a lot of email . . .

Ehudthekiller Thu Apr 14
@BrandSanderson It was a starwars battlefront 2 mod map with a video and pictures, and an explanation, emailed through your blog system

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@Ehudthekiller Oh, yes. I DID see that. Thank you!

Ehudthekiller Thu Apr 14
@BrandSanderson So you're ok with me making it? If your interested Ill email more details and videos, we're still waiting for vins model tho

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@Ehudthekiller Sure, email me more. But generally, I don't have a problem with people doing these things, so long as they're not for money.

tesana Thu Apr 14
Woah, Brandon Sanderson just changed his tweet name! I was so confused . . . @BrandSanderson

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@tesana I'm sneaky like that.

JamesLuckman Thu Apr 14
@BrandSanderson Wanna have a detailed conversation about something? We already did sexuality in the Wheel.

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@JamesLuckman Well, we could get into how timid a lot of us fantasy writers are about writing black viewpoint protagonists.

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@JamesLuckman It is noticeable to me. I don't think it's intentional bias, and if it is, it's worry about doing something wrong.

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@JamesLuckman But you see a lot of black side characters (in film too) but few black leading men.

JamesLuckman Thu Apr 14
@BrandSanderson Interesting point actually . . . a form of reverse-racism. The fear that you are going to step wrong,

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@JamesLuckman Yes. You can read up on something called "Racefail" in the sff community from a few years back, if you want.

JamesLuckman Thu Apr 14
@BrandSanderson It's funny, i never realised but i have no black characters in my book, and thinking about it it's likely because i've no idea how to write an aboriginal viewpoint. I lack the insight—though that's wrong in itself because there will be many black and aboriginal people with an upbringing similar to mine.

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@JamesLuckman Google it. You'll find some interesting points along these lines.

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@JamesLuckman I do wonder if it also has to do with not having racially integrated kingdoms (as makes sense) in fantasy.

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@JamesLuckman So, if you want to tell a story about one kingdom, it naturally follows that you end up with a lot of people of the same race.

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@JamesLuckman Then, you add someone else to be racially diverse—but that person you add becomes, by nature, the outsider. @feelieking

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@JamesLuckman Which, of course, only reinforces the bias, despite attempts at being diverse. It's a tough nut to crack. @feelieking

FeelieKing Thu Apr 14
@JamesLuckman @BrandSanderson I often wonder if having *one* black character (amid a load of white characters) is worse than having none

JamesLuckman Thu Apr 14
@feelieking @BrandSanderson Tokenism, and the perception thereof, is an issue. Brandon's revelation of a gay character in ToM recieved some very . . . heated . . . attention based on this.

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@JamesLuckman @feelieking Yes. Tokenism is a real danger. And it's tough to do these things without stepping into this trap.

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@JamesLuckman On one side, you have GLBT readers emailing me and asking sincerely to be better represented. @feelieking

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@JamesLuckman Then, you have RJ saying to fans "Yes, there are gay characters. It just hasn't been right to mention it yet." @feelieking

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@JamesLuckman However, when the time is right to mention one, how do you keep it from feeling just like a token nod? @feelieking

JamesLuckman Thu Apr 14
@BrandSanderson @feelieking On the other hand, from the perspective of a minority that has only very recently recieved airtime seeing anything is kind of . . . well, nice. I can remember being young and avidly watching Dawson's Creek for the characters who, by today's standards, are very much tokens.

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@JamesLuckman @feelieking I'm curious. Did you ever read Rose of the Prophet? If so, what did you think of the gay character?

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@JamesLuckman I liked them as a teenager, but haven't read them in years. If I remember right, however, the gay character—

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@JamesLuckman —falls into the "safe gay friend" category that you see used so often in film, though he has a lot more depth

JamesLuckman Thu Apr 14
@BrandSanderson @feelieking Haha . . . you asked me this last time—but no. It's on my list now, but hard to find in Australia. She's also Mormon, no?

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@JamesLuckman The gay man is a major viewpoint protag, but his sexuality is very subtle. Hickman is LDS, but not Margaret.

JamesLuckman Thu Apr 14
@BrandSanderson Have you read R. Scott Bakkers The Prince of Nothing?

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@JamesLuckman I keep meaning to read it. I think I even bought a copy. But I haven't yet.

FeelieKing Thu Apr 14
@JamesLuckman @BrandSanderson Do either of you read Lois McMaster Bujold? I hugely recommend Bujold—she's amazing. And does non-tokenistic inclusivity very well, IMO.

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@JamesLuckman @BrandSanderson I've read a fair bit of Bujold. But it's been a little while since I had time for one.

JamesLuckman Thu Apr 14
@BrandSanderson In one of my early drafts i had a camp gay man, and i was accused of homophobia . . . its kind of the same point . . .

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@JamesLuckman @feelieking As an aside, I really wish "homophobia" hadn't stuck as the term of choice in these matters.

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@JamesLuckman @feelieking I guess "homoinsensitivitia" didn't have the right ring to it.

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
When I was younger, I found the Siuan/Bryne side plot distracting. Now it's one of my favorites. Odd, that. #wotrr

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
It might go back to the fact that, having the ending of the series in hand, I no longer feel anxious about waiting for an ending. #wotrr

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
As RJ matured as a writer, the depth of romantic relationships grew. Mat/Tuon and Siuan/Bryne are more complex than earlier romances. #wotrr

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
Not that I mind some of the early ones. Simple is sometimes good too. But it is a shift I've noticed in the books. #wotrr

Loudwarrior Thu Apr 14
@BrandSanderson I have to stop reading your tweets now. #WoTnewbie (half way thru audio of Eye of the World)

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@Loudwarrior I DO try to keep major spoilers behind a link. But there are a lot of minor ones. Sorry about that . . .

JamesLuckman Thu Apr 14
@BrandSanderson I dunno—Nynaeve/Lan was done in much the same manner as Mat/Tuon. And is anything more complex than Moiraine/Thom

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@JamesLuckman Maybe complex is the wrong word. Nynaeve/Lan was very well done. But it also wasn't in the forefront.

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@JamesLuckman Also, they both fell in love quickly and and easily—there are just lots of obstacles.

sleepinghour Thu Apr 14
@BrandSanderson Rand/Elayne and Gawyn/Egwene hardly spent any time together before declaring undying love. #wotrr

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@sleepinghour You hit on the two basic ones that sometimes I feel lack depth in the early books.

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@sleepinghour Of course, you could argue this has to do with the age of the participants more than anything else.

buairtri Thu Apr 14
@BrandSanderson On the gay character question, why do you think fantasy, in general, so badly underrepresents the LGBT community? It's one thing that deeply bothers me about a genre I love so dearly.

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@buairtri If I had to say, I'd guess it's not intentional. It has more to do with what I posted earlier—authors not wanting to do it wrong

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@buairtri That, mixed with the desire to create sympathetic characters—and the most simple way to do that is create someone like yourself.

buairtri Thu Apr 14
@BrandSanderson I always wondered if there was any marketability concern—that books would sell less with major gay characters.

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@buairtri Maybe. But most writers/editors I know don't think that way. They write the book they want to, then figure out how to market it.

buairtri Thu Apr 14
@BrandSanderson I always wondered if editors/publishers would push back because of that, I mean.

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@buairtri Marketing might, true. It's quite possible. I don't think the writers think that way, but it could very well be an issue.

JamesLuckman Thu Apr 14
@BrandSanderson I've had so much fun hanging out with you tonight, but its 5:30 in the morning and i need sleep.

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@JamesLuckman Ha. Good night, then. Sorry I've been a little distracted this time.

JamesLuckman Thu Apr 14
@BrandSanderson Have a blast a JordanCon. I'm really sorry I'm not there to meet you in person.

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@JamesLuckman Remind me again. You're over in Australia, right? If so, what city?

JamesLuckman Thu Apr 14
@BrandSanderson Sydney. Same as Linda (@zemaile)

BrandSanderson Thu Apr 14
@JamesLuckman I'll be there next year, if I haven't mentioned. You, me, and Linda need to hang out when I come.
