This is a little bit of a twist on the bard character you see so often in fantasy novels. I've read of a couple of bards/poets who want to hang around the main characters hoping that something epic will happen so they can write songs about it. Well, I was thinking that a medieval journalist might make a more interesting character—one who doesn't just want to be around famous people, but interview them as well.
