What I’m listening to

As I’m writing (working on chapter seven of WELL) I’m listening to my newest acquisition—the soundtrack to THE VILLAGE. This marks the first full album I’ve ever purchased off of iTunes.

The music is amazing. Most of it centers on violin-piano duets, with symphonic motions in the background. It provides a haunting, yet still somehow upbeat, atmosphere—which is absolutely perfect for a MISTBORN book. (The UNBREAKABLE soundtrack, also by James Newton Howard, is equally cool for this reason.)

Music makes a big deal to me in writing. When I finally get the chapter annotations up and running (hopefully, this won’t take too long!) I plan to eventually include comments about what music I was listening to during the creation of a particular chapter. I won’t be able to do this for ELANTRIS—I didn’t take those kind of notes back then. However, I should be able to do it for some of MISTBORN and a lot of WELL.
