A Memory of Light Names

You're here because I mentioned a name I'm putting into A Memory of Light, and linked this page. I'll give you the short explanation, but the longer blog post explaining this process is here.

Robert Jordan used names of people he knew, names of places around him, and sometimes even random names from lists in order to create the names for the Wheel of Time. I have found this same process to be very helpful. Taking a name from our world, then filtering it a few times through the WoT lens, creates names that work well in the Wheel of Time books. (As that world is supposed to be our world, many years in the future. Or maybe in the past. The Wheel of Time Turns.)

Rather than turning to the phone book for these names, I am using the names of fans for inspiration. In this case, I'm holding a fund-raiser for JordanCon. If someone donates ten bucks to JordanCon (a not-for-profit, the money going to getting guests for the convention and keeping the price to attend down) they get on the list I use to generate names.
