Signed Book Packaging and Shipping
SIGNING DELAY
There will always be some delay between when you order a book and when it is shipped to you, since Brandon has to sign the book first. He typically signs books only every other Saturday, though he will sign more often during the holiday rush. But sometimes Brandon goes out of town for a family gathering, a convention, or a book tour. Please be aware that all of those factors and others can mean that the book doesn't come as quickly as you expect. If you have concerns about this, contact Brandon's assistant Becky (dragonsteel.becky@gmail.com) with your specific request.
PACKAGING
For shipping books, we use bubble mailers, with the book wrapped in bubble wrap separately. Or if we're using Priority Mail, we use a flat rate envelope with the book wrapped in bubble wrap. This seems to protect the books just fine, but if you are a collector and want more expensive packaging, contact Brandon's assistant Becky with your specific request.
MEDIA MAIL SHIPPING (U.S.)
By default we ship books via USPS media mail in the U.S. This option can take a couple of weeks, but it is the most economical.
The charge for basic shipping and handling is as follows:
US: $3.50 per book (plus the cost of the book itself)
US: $4.00 per book (for large books such as THE GATHERING STORM)
CANADIAN ECONOMY SHIPPING
If you want to buy a thick book like THE GATHERING STORM, the Priority Mail International option below is the cheapest way to get it. But a single thinner book like ELANTRIS or MISTBORN can be sent First Class Mail International for a savings of $1.50.
The charge for economy shipping and handling is as follows:
Canada: $10 per thin book (plus the cost of the book; all prices in USD)
(Though "thin" is a relative term. These are still 500-page books.)
PAY ATTENTION: When checking out, switch between Economy and Priority to see which is really cheaper for the weight of the books you have ordered. For thick books, Priority will be cheaper and the Economy price will show as MORE EXPENSIVE than Priority. We know that doesn't make sense. It's a limitation of the Paypal shipping system.
PRIORITY MAIL SHIPPING (U.S./International)
By default we ship books internationally via USPS Priority Mail International, and Priority Mail may also be selected for the U.S. Most single books will fit fine in a flat-rate envelope, and three thinner books will fit in a medium flat-rate box. However, very thick books such as THE GATHERING STORM may be risky to ship in a flat-rate envelope. Our local post office employees think this packaging will be fine, but in 2009 Sam Weller's Bookstore had those exact packages rejected by their local post office due to the way the book fit the envelope. A non-flat-rate Priority Mail International package would cost $20 more, and even a First Class International package costs at least $6 more, so we're going to try the flat-rate envelope to save you money. But keep in mind that there is some risk in this method, and we're somewhat at the whim of local USPS employees. If your package gets rejected when we go to ship it out, that will necessitate a change in shipping price. Please forgive us if this ends up happening; we've been told by USPS employees that it won't, but judging by Sam Weller's experience in 2009 we can't be positive. (If you don't want the risk and just want to pay more up front for unproblematic packaging, contact Brandon's assistant Becky.) Also, only one of the three books going into a medium flat-rate box can be a thicker book such as THE GATHERING STORM.
The charge for Priority Mail shipping and handling is as follows:
US: $5.50 for one book (plus the cost of the book itself)
US: $10.50 for a medium flat-rate box that will fit 2 or 3 books (plus the cost of the books)
Canada: $11.50 for one book (plus the cost of the book itself)
Canada: $27 for a medium flat-rate box that will fit 3 books (plus the cost of the books)
All other countries: $15 per book (plus the cost of the books themselves)
COMBINED SHIPPING
Each order of exactly three books will incur an automatic upgrade to Priority Mail shipping at no charge above that for standard shipping, and such an order will be shipped in a flat-rate box. Unfortunately a limit in box sizes available to us means that three books is the maximum that can be shipped together, and any books beyond that will be shipped in our standard fashion. Also, large books such as THE GATHERING STORM will only fit two per flat-rate box, though a TGS and two Mistborn books will still fit in the same box. Please contact Becky for more details. Due to the different locations that our store items are shipped from, we cannot combine shipping for other items such as jewelry and apparel.
HOLIDAY DEADLINES
The last day to order signed books to guarantee arrival by December 24th is December 5th in the U.S. (December 11th with Priority shipping) and November 1st internationally. Brandon is going to be on tour for the entire month of November, so all international orders have to be taken care of before he leaves.
