We are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Finance Director professional to work at our location in Pleasant Grove, Utah. This is a full-time, in-office, and exempt position not entitled to overtime.


Job Description

The Finance Director serves as a senior financial leader of the organization and a strategic partner to the company officers and the executive leadership team. This role reports to the Chief Operations Officer and is responsible for overseeing all accounting, financial planning and analysis (FP&A), budgeting, forecasting, and external financial reporting functions while ensuring strong internal controls and fiscal discipline. The Finance Director translates financial data into actionable business intelligence, providing insight into organizational performance, operational efficiency, and long-term financial sustainability. This leader manages the accounting function through the Accounting Director and Junior Accountant, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with applicable standards, and the integrity of financial systems and processes. The ideal candidate combines executive-level financial strategy with hands-on analytical rigor and strong team leadership capabilities.


Responsibilities

Strategic Financial Leadership

  • Serve as a strategic financial advisor to the COO and executive team
  • Lead long-range financial planning to support organizational growth and operational priorities
  • Develop financial models to evaluate new initiatives, capital investments, and business scenarios
  • Provide clear financial insights to inform executive decision-making
  • Work with external financial consultants for fractional CFO, bookkeeping, and reconciliation

Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)

  • Lead the annual budgeting process across departments, including timeline development, guidance, consolidation, and executive presentation
  • Conduct monthly and quarterly variance analysis comparing actual results to budget and forecast
  • Collaborate with departmental stakeholders to analyze financial and sales trends, financial ratios, key performance indicators, business drivers, and operational data in support of revenue forecasting and financial planning activities
  • Perform mid-year re-forecasting and rolling forecasts to ensure financial alignment
    Identify risks and opportunities through proactive financial analysis

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Oversee preparation and delivery of internal and external financial reports
  • Coordinate and manage external audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls to safeguard company assets

Accounting Oversight

  • Provide leadership and oversight to the Accounting Director and Junior Accountant
  • Partner with the Accounting Director to develop financial projections and budgets for new projects, initiatives, and business proposals
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards
    Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
  • Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements as appropriate
  • Oversee cash flow management, accounts payable/receivable processes, and general ledger integrity

Process Improvement & Financial Infrastructure

  • Improve financial systems, reporting tools, and internal workflows for efficiency and scalability
  • Develop dashboards and executive-level reporting packages
  • Establish financial policies and procedures that promote accountability and operational excellence

Team Leadership & Development

  • Manage, mentor, and develop the Accounting Director and Junior Accountant
  • Establish performance expectations and accountability standards
  • Foster a culture of accuracy, continuous improvement, and professional growth within the finance team

Additional Responsibilities

  • All other duties as assigned by management


Required Skills & Qualifications

Education & Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field required. MBA strongly preferred
  • Minimum 12 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting roles is required
  • Certified Public Accountant certification preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a leadership or managerial capacity
    Experience reporting to executive leadership or board-level stakeholders preferred

Availability

  • In office 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday, flexible hours between 8am and 6pm
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Must be eligible to legally work in the United States and provide applicable documentation

Leadership & Team Management

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop accounting and finance teams
  • Experience managing multi-level staff and delegating effectively
  • Strong performance management and coaching capabilities
  • Ability to build accountability and high standards within the department
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to operate at both executive and operational levels

Technical Skills & Systems Knowledge

  • Advanced financial modeling and forecasting expertise
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, Sage, QuickBooks, or similar platforms)
  • Advanced Excel skills (complex formulas, pivot tables, financial modeling)
  • Experience with budgeting and FP&A tools preferred
  • Ability to design dashboards and executive reporting packages

Time Management & Organization

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines, reporting cycles, and strategic initiatives simultaneously
  • Strong project management capabilities, particularly during budgeting and forecasting cycles
  • Detail-oriented with strong process discipline
  • Ability to prioritize high-impact financial initiatives
    Self-motivated to complete tasks with minimal supervision
  • Arrives on time for and works all scheduled shifts, and communicates requested schedule changes well in advance

We are hiring temporary event staff for our annual convention in Salt Lake City, Utah. This is a non-exempt, in-office position, and it is entitled to overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor and Standards Act.

The convention will run from Thursday, December 3 through Saturday, December 5. Whether you're a seasoned usher, a customer service wizard, or a hospitality hero, we have the perfect role for you. Responsibilities

Dragonsteel Nexus Squires will be responsible for carrying out a variety of essential roles at the convention—if hired, you will be assigned to one of many possible subcommittees.

The duties applicable to every position in every subcommittee will include the following:

  • Adhere to event safety standards: Prioritize the safety of attendees and staff by strictly adhering to established safety protocols and guidelines throughout the event. Closed toed shoes must be worn while on the clock.

  • Diligently oversee assigned roles: Execute assigned tasks with precision and enthusiasm, contributing to the seamless execution of events, panels, and activities.

  • Abide by rules and regulations: Maintain professionalism and integrity by adhering to the rules and regulations established by the staffing agency and by Dragonsteel’s event policies and procedures.

  • Dress and Grooming Standards: Must adhere to business-appropriate dress and grooming standards to ensure a professional and welcoming environment. Dragonsteel Nexus shirts will be provided and one must be worn while on the clock. Additional personal appearance and dress guidelines specific to your role will be communicated by supervisors which must be adhered to.

  • Fulfill other duties as assigned: Remain flexible and adaptable to the evolving needs of the event, willingly assisting with various tasks and responsibilities as directed by event management.

Depending on the subcommittee for which you are selected, your duties may also include:

  • Facilitate line management/crowd control: Maintain order and efficiency by effectively managing queues, directing traffic flow, and resolving any crowd-related issues promptly and courteously.

  • Assist attendees: Provide exemplary customer service by assisting attendees with registration, offering directions, answering inquiries, and ensuring their needs are met in a friendly and efficient manner.

  • Operate Point Of Sale Device: Facilitate credit or debit card transactions for customers purchasing merchandise or services.

  • Communicate customer service issues: Proactively identify and communicate any customer service issues or concerns to event management, offering solutions and implementing necessary actions to resolve them promptly.

If selected as a Squire, the requirements for the specific role we would like you to fill will be explained to you.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Minimum and maximum hourly requirements: Must be available to work two four-hour shifts each day of the convention, December 3–5.

  • Training Attendance Requirements: Must be available to attend in person or virtually for up to four hours of mandatory training per month from the time of hire through the start date of the convention.

  • Excellent eye for detail: Demonstrate keen attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and precision in all tasks performed. Experienced Tineyes are preferred but not required.

  • Ability to handle stressful situations: Remain calm, composed, and solution-oriented in high-pressure situations, effectively managing stress to uphold quality of service.

  • Work independently and collaboratively: Display initiative and self-motivation while also thriving in a team-oriented environment, actively contributing to collective success through cooperation and collaboration.

  • Excellent customer service skills: Possess strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and patience, consistently delivering exceptional customer service to enhance attendee satisfaction and loyalty.

  • Superb time management: Exhibit strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively, maximizing productivity and ensuring timely completion of assigned responsibilities.

  • Sustain physical demands: Depending on the position, you may be required to participate in tasks that require sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, pushing, pulling, reaching overhead and at shoulder level, and other various physical demands. 

  • Transportation & Lodging Accommodations: Must have reliable transportation to the convention center December 3–5, 2026. Lodging will not be provided. 

  • Other specialized skills: We are also looking for candidates with skills not specified here (e.g., ASL interpretation, retail experience, etc.). Compensation and Perks

  • Wage: $15/hr

  • Convention Badge: You will be provided with a temporary staff badge that will give you general admission access perks to the convention (access to all convention programming, games, prizes, exhibitor hall, merchandise pre-order, and one entry into the drawing for a ticket to Brandon Sanderson’s various signings).

  • Temporary Staff Lounge: Onsite, you will have access to a private room dedicated for use by the temporary staff.

  • Temporary Staff Swag: You will receive three themed convention shirts and a lapel pin that are only available to convention staff.
